After the usual wrangling with the school and “Service” in the Air Force I made a four-year expedition in the banking industry. The job has been awesome, the people extremely bad. So I'm gone the way back to nature. I've given up the illusion that bickering, power games and scamming the customers would be missing in science and studied marine biology, limnology in Bremen and Gothenburg, Sweden, and in Sendai, Japan, something that later became known as biotechnology.

My first article I wrote in 1982 after a long hitch hiking trip of 10,000 clicks through the U.S. of A. in search of Jack Kerouac's America: "The crack" ("Der Riss") for the magazine "Fernweh” (Wanderlust) – and a long list followed.
